The Need: Monitoring a Large Investment Plan

The Municipality of Parma, Italy, launched in 2010 an investment plan [Italian] in public works for 530 million Euros over three years.

In order to manage and monitor the numerous public work being built, the Municipality needed to adopt a new, more efficient system and replace the several tools in use, based on data tables updated by one person at a time by interviewing the Municipality staff about each ongoing work.

Benefits of the Nuvole Platform

The Municipality decided to use the Nuvole Public Works Monitoring Platform, which offered several advantages over the solutions in use:

  • All data about a public work (map, images, timeline, budget, progress) can be stored in one system instead of being stored in separate system.
  • The easy-to-use web interface allows for real-time updates of data by the staff member responsible for monitoring each public work, with no delays and no intermediaries.
  • The effective visualization system makes it possible to spot very quickly the critical issues with a public work, to monitor delays and see what needs action.
  • The attractive display of public works make the tool suitable for reporting too, either online or offline thanks to the PDF export and printing capabilities.
  • Through fine-grained permissions, it is possible to define what can be seen and modified by every user in the system, giving limited update access to ordinary staff, moderator privileges to high-level staff and full read-only access to selected public officers.
